Bad enough when you hear about classic cars getting wrecked on the road - at least they were in their element. When a classic warbird gets wrecked on the road in this manner, it's even sadder - compounded by the fact it was freshly restored and on its way to a Veterans' Day parade before being put in a museum:

While being towed down a highway in Tulsa, a cable holding down one of this UH-1 "Huey"'s rotor blades snapped, causing it to catch the air - and catch an overhead highway sign, with the above result.

If it is going to a museum, it may be possible to cobble it together enough to be displayed. There aint no mixup, caulk can't fixup.

Look at the size of that rotor. That huge rotor gives it that distinctive, "whomp, whomp" sound that you feel in your chest if they fly over low enough. When you here it, you understand why it is such a trigger for some Vietnam Vets.

The UH-1 rotor had so much mass that you could kill the engine in hover, turn the aircraft 180 degrees and still land it safely (if you were close to the ground). Which was amazing at the time.

I had two chopper pilots that were neighbors when I was in High School. The drafted hippy guy flew medevacs and the Ga. Tech defensive lineman flew the attack version of the Huey. Unbelievable no-shit stories.

Sorry to see this bird get messed up like this.
